How can we contact you?
The best way to get ahold of me is e-mail. My e-mail address is [email protected]. You can also reach me during school hours at (847)870-5174, or just send a note to school with your child.
When should you contact me?
Please contact me whenever you have a question or concern. If there is anything going on at home that may affect your child’s behavior, please let me know.
When is homework due?
The policies are listed below by subject area.
Reading
Each Investigator should be reading for 400 minutes each month. Record the books being read on the reading log that comes at the beginning of each month. Return the log at the end of the month for a prize.
Math
The Investigators will be coming home with a homework page a couple of times a week. It is due back the next day. You should be doing this page with your child. I will also periodically send home Mad Minute time tests that were done in class. If your child is struggling with basic math facts, I encourage you to finish these sheets at home, whether you return them to me, is up to you!
Spelling
Pretests are taken on Monday. If you child gets all or all but one of the words correct on Monday, they will be given challenge words. Decide which list is best for your child. Children who receive challenge words can be tested on either list on Friday. Be sure to practice all of the words each night. Spelling tests are given Fridays. Spelling words can be found on the Spelling City website.
Homework Packets
A packet of five sheets will be coming home each Friday. This will include one handwriting sheet and one math fact sheet. The rest of the packet will include other skills that we have been working on. Some sheets will require parent help, others can be done independently. The packet is due back to me the following Friday.

Your child may bring in a favorite book on his or her birthday, which will be read to the class in celebration. Due to Betsy Ross school policy, food items or toys are not allowed at birthday celebrations.
*Classroom mail may not be used to send birthday invitations.
Will my child check out library books?
Students will be able to check out two books from our school library every Thursday. Books are due back a week later.
How do I let you know my child will be going home a different way?Per our school policy, all transportation changes must be received in the office (or my classroom) by 8:25 AM of the affected school day and must include a parent signature. If the school does not receive a signed note by 8:25 AM, we will be unable to change your child's transportation arrangements for that day. Unfortunately, we will also be unable to alter your child's transportation arrangements based on an e-mail or phone request, as all changes must be received with a signature. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in ensuring the safety of all our students.
